Stretching the fabric, will distort the blocks. After all that hard work, that’s not what you want. Your ironing process isn’t what I was taught. In quilting, you press the fabric (up & down) not ironing, which is what you did. The back & forth motion will distort the fabric. The goal is to be as precise as possible, otherwise we don’t need to worry about an accurate 1/4” nor nestling the seams.
