Crochet designer Twinkie Chan loves making crocheted stockings around the holidays. They evoke such warm and nostalgic feelings, and they truly seem like something her Grandma Wendelton would have made. Join Twinkie and learn how to crochet an heirloom granny hexagon stocking. This classic granny hexagon motif is perfect for the season because it resembles a giant snowflake, and Twinkie teaches you the basic granny stitch, which is made of double crochet stitches and chains. You’ll also learn how to work in the round to create a six-sided shape. Choose your own color scheme and how many colors to use, and easily adjust the size of your motifs to change the size of the stocking. To assemble the hexagons into a stocking shape, Twinkie provides several diagrams and guides you through her preferred method of putting it all together with a hand-sewn fabric lining and a hanging loop. Imagine how sweet your home will look with a line of cozy, handmade stockings, waiting to be filled with special treats and holiday magic.
Here’s what you’ll need:
  • 1-4 colors of DK or worsted weight yarn - Twinkie uses Big Twist Value in Ivory, Deep Red, Medium Rose, Jade Green
  • H8/5.0mm crochet hook (consider going down one hook size smaller than your usual to keep the stitches dense)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Extra long straight pins (optional)
  • For optional fabric lining: 1/2 yard woven fabric in a solid color that you don't mind showing through your crochet stitches
  • Scissors for fabric
  • Fabric marking tool like  a Frixion pen or even a regular pencil
  • Sewing thread to match your fabric
  • Hand-sewing needle
  • Straight pins

I watched this class to view the Optimal Fabric Lining portion after crocheting Twinkie Chan's Sunburst Granny Square Bag (that was a delight to crochet I might add)☺️

Me being me, I stopped at the point where you would make a fabric lining (I personally don't want a "stretchy" hang look to distort the work and stitches of my crochet bag). I was going to work out the lining on my own, then realized I didn't have to because Twinkie refers you to This class and a blog post for the fabric lining instructions! Oh happy day!!! ?

I was so grateful for the ease Twinkie demonstrates how to make the fabric lining! I'll do ahead and hand sew my lining (was going to machine sew the bottom and hand sew the top), yet I will go ahead and keep this bag in the  handcrafted realm it is created in...

If you're on the fence about starting this project, just hop off and Do It...You'll be Glad you did!!! Enjoy the process...!
