In this beginner-friendly class, Blair shows you how to transform a simple piece of gingham fabric into a charming, hand-embroidered accessory using classic chicken scratch stitching. You’ll learn her favorite tips for choosing colors, placement of the motif, and ways to change up and vary the pattern.
Here’s what you’ll need:
For a finished size of bandana approximately 17” square.
- 1 fat quarter of gingham with individual squares sized at ¼” each
- 6-strand embroidery floss in 4 colors, including green for leaves and three tonal shades for the flowers; Blair is using Dark Pink, Medium Pink, and Light Pink
- One hand embroidery needle, size 3-5
- 6” embroidery hoop or similar size
- Fabric marker like a Frixion pen
- Iron and ironing surface
- To hem the ends of the bandana, you will need a sewing machine with coordinating thread
