This class will be available to view on July 01, 2026.
Make a whole field of colorful yarn flowers with a vintage-style flower loom. Popular in the ’60s and ’70s, these looms often came in kits with yarn to make those beautiful flower afghans you’ve likely seen before. After crochet designer Twinkie Chan placed one of these vintage afghans in the background of her product photos, she was inundated with requests to teach the technique, and that’s how this class was born. Join Twinkie for 15 days exploring the basics of flower looming. You’ll learn about different types of looms, how to make your own, and foundational techniques, including a variety of darning methods to create different flower centers. She’ll also show you how to make the classic two-layer flower seen in vintage afghans, along with two ways to join your flowers—one using crochet and one with a needle. Once you get into the rhythm, you can start experimenting with all kinds of yarns and materials, like raffia and fabric strips. The flowers make super cute hair clips, brooches, and gift toppers—and you’ll have all the skills you need to create that iconic flower blanket.
