Artist, illustrator, and instructor Jon Stich spent years developing his signature style. In this class, cover the fundamentals of acrylic painting before moving on to more advanced techniques in order to find your own. First, make representational paintings by finding midtones, light tones, and dark tones. You’ll work with a limited palette and mix colors to paint a still life, a monochromatic portrait, and finally, a color portrait. By following Jon’s clear and concise methods, along with his friendly insight and patient instruction, you’ll find a new way to both see and craft color, leading to thoughtfully-assembled portraits.
Here’s what you’ll need:
  • Golden Heavy Body 5 oz tube titanium white
  • Golden Heavy Body 5 oz tube Hansa Yellow Medium
  • Golden Heavy body 5 oz Tube Naphthol Red Light
  • Golden Heavy Body 5 oz tube Phthalo Blue (Green Shade)
  • Masterson Palette Sta-Wet Premier: 12x16 size (palette= palette paper, felt, tray with lid)
  • Golden brand Retarder 4oz
  • Princeton brush sizes Flat 16, Filbert 8, Flat or Bright 6, Round 4 (Jon uses a mix of Princeton brushes: Ashley 5200 series, Umbria 6200 series, and Aspen 6500 series)
  • Raphael Kolinsky 8404 series brushes size 2 and 4
  • 5 sheets 9x12 Bristol Vellum Paper
  • Rag
  • Jar of water
  • Apron

This is the course I've been searching out for quite a while. If you see Jon's art, you know he knows his stuff. When I finished the course I had a good jump-off point to understanding building up layers for art in the acrylic paint medium. It is a good course.
