Take an experimental approach to creating abstract art with intuitive painter Flora Bowley. In this quick class, you’ll learn how to use nontraditional “tools” – like Gerber daises, mushrooms, and celery – to make unique marks with acrylic paint. Flora’s teaching style is equal parts eye-opening and fun, and her techniques will help you nurture a curious and open-minded approach to painting with acrylics.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 8 ½” x 11” paper or cardstock
- Acrylic paint in a variety of colors (Flora uses Golden Fluid and basic craft acrylic paints)
- Palette or palette paper (Flora uses a glass plate on cookie sheet)
- Water container
- Rags
- Organic materials to paint with, like celery, corn cobs, mushrooms, potatoes, peppers, pine needles, and flowers

This is a wonderful offering and very inspiring.
I wish so much that makers would consider experimenting with natural earth pigment paints instead of synthetic acrylic paints. It is so healing to compost all your "brushes" and mark making tools without adding plastic and petroleum chemicals to the earth.
