You don’t need an expensive or elaborate studio space to create successful screen prints. Mixed media artist Hilary Williams talks you through setting up a basic home studio space. You will learn how to create a printing board, how to set up your space to make clean prints, what tools you will need have on hand, and how to practice good studio cleanup habits.
Here’s what you’ll need:
  • Rope for hanging line
  • Clothespins
  • Paper
  • Screen-printing squeegee
  • Frisket or tracing paper for stencils
  • Ruler
  • Silkscreen
  • Exacto Knife
  • Pencil
  • 2 Hinge clamps
  • Screws
  • Screwdriver
  • Sticky-backed rubber feet
  • MDF Board cut to fit largest screen and smallest screen (size shown in class: 24” x 32”)
  • Masking tape
  • Rags
  • Packing tape
  • Ink
  • Spatula for cleanup
  • Spoons for mixing ink
  • Cutting mat
  • Canvas dropcloth (or other protective covering for work surface)
  • Apron
