This adorable handbag is the ultimate personalized accessory. Printmaker and surface designer, Jen Hewett, shows you how to create simple stamps and print custom fabric. She then shows you how easy it is to sew a tote using your hand-stamped fabric. French seams and riveted leather handles create a professional finishing touch. 
Here’s what you’ll need:
For fabric stamping:
  • 2 pieces prewashed medium-weight fabric cut to 13” x 19” (Jen uses linen or linen-cotton blend)
  • Fabric paint in 2 colors
  • Super Glue
  • 2 small paint rollers
  • Inking plate or other non-porous surface
  • 2 pieces 4” x 6” soft rubber stamp material, for carving
  • 4 wood blocks, approximately 2 ½” x 2 ½”
  • Utility blade
  • Cutting mat
  • Quilt batting at least 13” x 19”, for a cushioned printing surface
  • Quilting ruler
  • Pencil
  •  
    For sewing:
  • 2 leather straps, each 25” x ½” (or sized to your preference)
  • 8 rivets with caps (9mm or 10mm)
  • Hammer
  • Leather hole punch
  • Sewing machine
  • Iron
  • Ironing surface
  • Thread
  • Snips
  • Pins
  • Rotary cutter or scissors
