Elke Bergeron shows you how to design and sew a versatile vintage-style tote, which can be worn off the shoulder or as a cross body bag. You will learn how to work with feedsack fabric, add a touch of canvas ticking for reinforcement, sew together a linen lining, and create leather straps. Add brass rivets and clips, and you will have your very own sturdy, handmade bag.

Sewing Materials
- Feedsack bag fabric, approximately 16” x 40” (prewashed)
- Lining fabric (Elke uses canvas ticking), 16” x 40”
- Contrasting fabric for base, approximately 16” x 12”
- Pins
- 6" length of 1”-wide webbing
- Two 1” brass d-rings
- Scissors
- Tailor's chalk
- Tape measure
- Rotary cutter and cutting mat
- Ruler
- Sewing machine
- Iron and ironing surface
- Coordinating thread
- Leather-Working Materials
- 8-9oz strap leather, sometimes called leather belting, at least 38” long by 2-1/4" - 3” wide
- Polyboard
- Strap cutter
- Ruler
- Edge bevel size 3 or 4
- Edge burnisher
- Awl
- 1/8” leather punch by Tandy (can be found in the Mini Punch Set)
- Rivet setter
- Rivet hand-press (optional)
- 12 medium or large rivets
- Two 1 1/2" brass clips
- Polyhammer
- Rotary cutter
- Measuring tape
- Water
- Sponge
- Scrap leather for washers
- Scissors

I was thinking a little overview of needle size might be important for the novice. Also, I probably wouldn't invest in all those leather tools for just one bag. So, maybe suggest another option.
