This quick and easy painted canvas clutch features colorful geometric shapes and a non-intimidating technique for inserting a zipper. Elke Bergeron shows you how to make the bag from beginning to end, including the leather tassel zipper pull. Scale the pattern up or down to make different sized bags, and make a whole batch of clutches to give to friends as gifts.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Materials:
  • 16"x10.5" piece of heavy weight canvas
  • 9 inch metal zipper
  • Pinking shears
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Hand sewing needle
  • Small piece of canvas
  • Waxed polyester cord in color of your choice (Elke uses neon green)
  • 1 yard of leather lacing
  • Masking tape
  • Pliers
  • Fabric paint in color of your choice (Elke uses neon pink)
  • Sponge
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine with neutral thread
